Location: Lake Wanaka, Wanaka, Otago, South Island, New Zealand
When I arrived at ‘That Wanaka Tree’ the morning I captured this image, I noticed an absence of the usual gathering of photographers.
However, it did not take too long before a tourist group arrived. They were a family who literally erupted onto the scene.
Amidst the activity of grouping their tripods together displaying an impressive collection of photographic gear, I noticed two drones were about to be released into the air.
The advantage of wearing waders, is the ability to walk deeper into the lake. I drew very close to ‘That Wanaka Tree’ whilst adjusting my focal length on my lens, enabling me to occupy the area more effectively and to photograph the tree close-up.
In doing that, I was unaffected by the drones which were persistently hovering over the tree.
